Comets

In this section, images of the photographic plates were registered, which contain observations of comets observed through the 32cm and 46cm equatorial telescopes of the Observatório Nacional.

Photographic records carried out in small reflecting telescopes were also found. This is the contribution of amateur astronomers who observe bodies of the Solar System. The amateur work is important for the professional astronomy, because they perform systematic and continuous observations, contributing with the improvement of, for instance, the orbital parameters of the great planets, natural satellites, asteroids and comets of short and long period.

Note: The images of scanned plates have their names formed, initially, by three letters associated to a number to facilitate their location in the digital database and physical archive of the Observatório Nacional library.
